Musicians in their own right and business people beyond that, we take a look at Ratbag Records and the band behind it.

They started by signing Byron Bay punk trio Skegss in 2015 and have since snatched up the UK’s Ratboy and MOLLY. Ratbag Records are championing Australian punk rock one stinky teenage boy at a time. Their family and friends based approach to the industry has set them apart from the serious and corporate nature of record deals, while their authenticity and dedication to their music means that they aren’t falling behind the crowd either.

Comprised of the boys who are otherwise known as band Dune Rats, Danny Beausa, BC Michaels and Brett Jansch have taken the music world by storm, nominated for ARIAs and at the same time allowing the music of bands like Skegss to be heard and enjoyed.

It’s an interesting approach to the industry which should be more considered. Musicians organising, making and marketing their own music, using their perspective and running with it. A business model which it seems has worked for Ratbag.
