Meet one of Australia’s most exciting music photographers Jethro Do Paco

Get near the pit at your next Sydney show and chances are you’ll run into Jethro Do Paco.  He’s making waves as one of the city’s most exciting new music photographers, but as he says, he’s been lucky to be able to turn what he loves into a career, without losing his passion for film.

1. How did you first get into music photography?

Taking photos in the music world wasn’t the first place I started dabbling in this craft.I picked up my first camera when I was 18 mid 2016 and actually started off just going around Sydney taking photos of anything and everything to understand and appreciate the art of photography. My first ever gig was actually UV BOI x Young Franco and I had talked to them personally to try shoot their show as I wasn’t with a publication at the time. Massive shout out to them for being absolute legends, I guess everything does go down in the DM’s! hahaha

2. You’ve worked with a bunch of pretty incredible people, what are you working on at the moment?

Currently, I’m working on a project that has been in the works for a very long time so I just can’t wait to put that out in the public! I’ve deferred my uni and just doing photos for a living for the past couple months. Other than that, I’m doing a bunch of work with music artists themselves especially with videography which has become a slow transition into something I love.

With that said, as a human, I believe you should always be improving therefore I’ve been turning my passion for photos into a career.

3. Let’s talk equipment, there is a lot more to it than people think, what are you working with at the moment, and for those of us out there who are in the dark, what’s the difference?

3. Personally, I started off with an entry level of camera just over a year ago and learnt to push the boundaries until I needed an upgrade. I feel as if people get too caught up on the level of equipment they have instead of actually taking the time to learn how to use it. Right now, I’m rocking a Canon 5d mark iii (I buy all my equipment second hand) but would love to pick up the mark 4!

4. What has been your favourite gig to photograph and why?

My favourite gig would for sure be Diplo’s show. It wasn’t just the fact that Diplo was playing, it was also because Post Malone was actually an opener for him! From the pyrotechnics to his energy- his show was killer.

5. Do you prefer gigs or parties?

Gigs hands down if I’m into the artist and music but parties can be super neat too, especially if there’s free alcohol going around hahaha.

6. What is the biggest challenge that you have met while working in the music industry?

Probably the politics in the music industry and the level of social climbers. I can’t count the number of times people have approached me because I know “x” person and tried to befriend and use me. However, there’s such a tight community in the music scene that you just can’t find anywhere else.
